My family had the great pleasure of meeting master woodturner Ted Knight and his wife for the first time in 2009, thanks to our wonderful friends at Thomas Anthony Gallery. We came away with a much deeper appreciation for Ted's unmatched skill and dedication to his craft, not to mention the intimate knowledge he possesses of his chosen medium. I can only marvel at the technical know-how and the sheer talent and physical deftness that allow Ted to bring the thickness of the wood down to an eighth of an inch on such large vessels. Another feat of woodworking skill that few others, if any, will even attempt is to shape the object at an angle perpendicular to the axis of the log. Learning about the wood spalting process was an added bonus for all of us. To have Ted explain it firsthand was... dare I say, priceless.
Ted was featured in the exhibition Audacious: The Fine Art of Wood, at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, from February 21 to June 21, 2015.
